ALGEBRA VOCABULARY
Algebra - a branch of mathematics that uses both letters and numbers to show the relationship between known and unknown quantities. A letter can be used to represent any number, but a letter CANNOT represent two different numbers in the same question.
Algebraic Expression - a mathematical phrase that uses numbers, variables, and operation symbols.
Coefficient - a number that is in front of a letter (being multiplied).
Constant - a number by itself.
Equation - a mathematical sentence with an equal sign.
If you perform an operation (add, subtract, multiply, etc.) on one side of the equation, you must do the same to the other side to keep the equation balanced.
If you perform an operation (add, subtract, multiply, etc.) on one side of the equation, you must do the same to the other side to keep the equation balanced.
To find a solution of an equation, isolate the variable by using inverse operations(operations that undo each other) and the properties of equality.
Evaluate - to evaluate an expression, replace each variable with a number and then simplify.
Like Terms - have exactly the same variable factors.
Example: 2g + 5g these are like terms
2g + 2w these are unlike terms

2g + 2w these are unlike terms
Simplify - when a numerical expression is replaced with its simplest name.
Solution - any value that makes the equation true.
Term - a number and a letter together.
Advanced Definition:
Term - a number, a variable, or the product of a number and one or more variables.
Term - a number, a variable, or the product of a number and one or more variables.
Variable - a letter that is used to represent a number.
